Vandalia softball got their second big win in as many days, shutting out Belleville Althoff at home, 12 to 0, in five innings on Wednesday. The Lady Vandals opened up the game’s scoring with a 4-run first inning on a RBI single from Bella Walk, a bases clearing 2 RBI triple from Elaina Hagy and a run scored on a passed ball. That 4-0 lead grew to 6-0 in the second inning on a RBI triple from Madison Lupton and Walk’s second RBI single of the day. Ollie Whitehead stole home in the bottom of the third to edge the lead out to 7-0 as Vandalia continued to roll. A passed ball in the bottom of the fourth allowed Walk to score with Whitehead at the plate and Whitehead then doubled to left field to bring another run in as Vandalia jumped up to a 9-0 lead. Still in the fourth inning and with the bases loaded, Liah Hoyle drew a walk to bring in one more run and after a fielder’s choice play at the plate, Lupton singled to left field to score two runs as the Lady Vandals pushed out to a 12-0 advantage. That would be it for the Vandals scoring and they sat the Crusaders down one, two, three in the fifth inning to close out the win. Vandalia improves to 3-5 on the season and will open up South Central Conference action on Friday at Gillespie.
