Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for February 1 are St. Elmo-Brownstown basketball’s Graidon Wilhour and Vandalia Wrestling’s Tyson Waughtel.
SEB sophomore Graidon Wilhour has made a splash on the area high school basketball scene this season, emerging as a top scorer for the Eagles in just his first year of Varsity play, starting all 21 games in the guard position. Wilhour posted his best offensive game of the year on Thursday, going 11 of 15 from the field including knocking down 9 of 12 three-pointers attempted on his way to a 31 point night which lead SEB to a 61-41 win over CHBC in the National Trail Conference Tournament.
Vandal wrestling senior Waughtel has been dominating all season long and has surpassed 40 wins on the season as he stands at 41-0 after a Quarterfinal win by Fall in 31 seconds at the Rich Lovellette Invitational in Litchfield on Friday night. With first place finishes at the Civic Memorial Steve Bradley Invitational and at the Lyle King Princeton Invitational Tournament already under his belt for the season, Waughtel is the favorite to take home the top spot at Litchfield as well. And adding to what has been an outstanding season, Waughtel made his move to the collegiate level next year official as this week he signed to wrestle for the University of Wisconsin.
