Vandalia Girls Hold off Late South Central Comeback


The Vandalia Lady Vandals jumped out to a big first-quarter lead and held off a late South Central comeback for a 55-44 win on Monday in their first game of 2025. The Lady Vandals took advantage of South Central turnovers in the first quarter to jump to a 19-2 first-quarter lead, highlighted by 8 points from Ollie Whitehead, and 7 points from Bella Walk. Vandalia would continue to pour it on in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Cougars 14-10 to take a 33-12 lead at halftime. South Central would slowly start to mount their comeback going on a 15-13 run, but still had a huge mountain to climb entering the 4th quarter down 46-27. The Lady Cougars would outscore Vandalia 17-9, even cutting the deficit to 8 with less than 3 minutes to go, but it was too little too late, as Walk, Whitehead, and Madison Lupton would combine to go 7 for 10 from the free-throw line to secure the 55-44 win for the Lady Vandals. With the win, Vandalia improves to 12-6 on the season. They will travel to Gillespie on Thursday for a SCC matchup. With the loss, South Central falls to 1-17. The Lady Cougars will be back at home on Thursday for an NTC matchup against Windsor/Stew-Stras
