The Altamont Indians got a walk off walk to head to the State Tournament.
Eli Miller drew a baseball loaded walk in a tie game in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Altamont Indians a 7 to 6 win over Hardin County in the Class 1A Super-Sectional Game at Itchy Jones Stadium in Carbondale on Monday to secure their spot in the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament.
Hardin County struck first with a run in the top of the 1st inning to take an early 1 to 0 lead. But, the Indians would answer as Dillan Elam singled and Nathan Stuemke doubled him in to tie the game. After an error and a popout, Kaidyn Miller came up with a booming Home Run over the 360 foot sign in left-center field to give the Indians a 4 to 1 lead. The lead to would grow to 5 to 1 in the 3rd when Kaidyn Miller would triple home Ethan Robbins. Hardin County got a run in the 4th to cut it to 5 to 2. Then, the Cougars put together a big inning as they put 4 on the board in the 5th inning to take a 6 to 5 lead. In the top of the 6th, the leadoff man for Hardin County tripled. But, Kade Milleville then struck out the side to keep it a one run ballgame and get the momentum back on the Indians’ side. Altamont would tie it on an RBI single by Kaden Davis in the bottom of the 6th. In the bottom of the 7th, Keegan Schultz drew a one out walk. One out later, Kaidyn Miller got his 3rd hit of the day to put two on. After a pitching change for Hardin County, Clayton Arnold reached on an error by the pitcher to tie the game. Then, in a long battle at the plate, Eli Miller ran the count full before drawing the walk off walk. With the win, Altamont improves to 30-9 on the season and heads to the State Tournament at Dozer Park in Peoria on Friday. The Indians will play in the second semi-final game on Friday as they will take on Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at 1 pm.
