SEB Cheer Claims One State Title, One Runner-Up Finish at ICCA State Championships

The St. Elmo-Brownstown High School cheerleading squad brought home two big pieces of hardware, including one state championship and one runner-up finish from the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association State Championships held this past weekend in Springfield. After competing Sunday in each of the two divisions they qualified for the State Championship in, the Eagles were notified that they were in the Top 10 in each division and waited on the competition mat as eight names and places tenth through third were announced leading up to the top two teams in the Small Jr. Varsity (Competition Routine) Division. As Mascoutah’s name was called as the division’s second place finisher, the Eagles began their celebration as they knew their name was about to be called as the first place finisher and 2024 ICCA Champion for the Small Jr. Varsity Division. The Eagles then again waited for the ticking off of the top 10 places of the JV Game Day Division and again as the first eight names and places were read off, knew they were in the top two and soon collected their second piece of hardware for the weekend after being named as the second place finisher and 2024 ICCA Runner-Up in the Jr. Varsity Game Day Division behind first place finisher Mt. Vernon. The ICCA championship is the first one since 2008 for either St. Elmo or Brownstown when the Bombers claimed the ICCA Championship of the Small Varsity Game Cheer Division. They then became the St. Elmo-Brownstown cheerleaders upon the two schools full co-op of sports beginning with the 2013-2014 school year making this weekend’s two trophies as the first ICCA State Championship and Runner-Up trophies in SEB cheer history.
