Altamont Suffers First Loss in Close NTC Battle; Nelson Drops Career High 56 Points for Indians


The Altamont Lady Indians suffered their first loss of the season falling just short to St. Anthony, 76-73, in a battle of unbeaten National Trail Conference teams. Altamont fell behind in the first quarter as they were only able to hit three shots from the field and trailed 22-11 at the end of the quarter. The deficit would grow slightly by halftime as the Lady Indians found themselves down 40-25 at the break. Altamont would cut into the St. Anthony lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 24-19 with junior guard Grace Nelson pouring in 20 points in the period as Altamont pulled to within ten points, 59-49 heading into the last quarter of play. The Lady Indians would again outscore St. Anthony, mounting a comeback attempt with Nelson again leading the charge with 21 points in the quarter, but the Indians would not be able to beat the clock, running out of time and falling just short, 76-73. Nelson would finish the game with a career high 56 points which will put her in a group of now 9 players ranked in 27th place in the IHSA’s record books for most points in a game. Altamont is now 7-1 on the season and will look to rebound from their first loss with four days off before a road game at Lake Land College on Saturday where they will face Central A&M at 10:00am.
