The South Central Cougars win their first Regional Championship since 2004 as they knock off #1 seed Altamont, 56 to 50, in the Regional Championship game on Friday night at Dieterich. The game was tight throughout, with South Central leading by 2 after the 1st quarter and leading 21 to 20 at halftime. Altamont would twice build a lead of 5 points in the 3rd quarter. But, South Central finished the 3rd quarter on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 37 heading to the the final frame. After making their first 12 free throws of the game, South Central struggled a bit at the line down the stretch which did open up some opportunities for Altamont. But, a strong job on the defensive board late in the game help seal the deal and give South Central the championship. South Central is now 26-7 on the season and they have won 7 in a row. They will next play on Wednesday in the Sectional Semi-Finals where they will take on Macon Meridian at Effingham St. Anthony.
