The South Central girls basketball team picked up their fourth win of the season, beating Brownstown-St. Elmo, 54-38, on Thursday night. The Cougars got out to a 12-5 advantage by the end of the first quarter and then went on a 7-2 run to push their lead to 19-7. BSE then put together a run of their own to cut the South Central lead to 25-17, but a Cougar push to end the first half made it 31-19 at halftime. BSE cut their deficit to 37-27 halfway through the 3rd quarter. South Central would be held to single digit scoring in the 4th quarter for the first time in the game, but still outscored BSE to notch the 54-38 win.
For South Central, Halle Smith led the way with 26 points, including going 5-5 at the free throw line. Taegan Webster finished with 8 points, Laney Webster had 7 points, Sydnee Garrett added 6 points, Brooklyn Garrett tallied 5 points and Kayli Swift added 2 points. South Central is now 4-3 on the season and will be back in action at home on Monday when they host Wayne City.
Brownstown-St. Elmo was led in scoring by Olivia Campbell with 13 points. Laney Baldrige scored 7 point and Audrey Wilhour had 6 points in the game. Natelly Beall and Sydney Stine each tallied 3 points while Lexi Seabaugh, Anna Stine and Jayna Ireland all had 2 points apiece. BSE is now 1-3 on the season. They will play at Windsor/Stew-Stras on Monday.
