Kyra Swift and Lauren Johnson made up for seven of South Central’s eleven hits and Kinlee Thompson had a strong showing on the mound as the Lady Cougars easily rolled by North Clay, 10 to 1, in National Trail Conference action on Monday. South Central got out to an early 3-0 lead with a three run first inning on a RBI single from Kaitlyn Swift and a RBI double from Johnson. A RBI single from Kyra Swift edged the Cougars lead to 4-0 in the second inning. Johnson’s second RBI double in the game put South Central up 5-0 and a sacrifice fly from Bri Buchanan pushed that lead to 6-0 in the third inning. Still in the third inning, Kyra Swift came through again with a RBI single to score Baylee Brown and an error during the play allowed Zoey Feldhake to score as well for an 8-0 Lady Cougars lead. That score would hold until the sixth inning when a sacrifice fly from Thompson brought a run in for a 9-0 South Central lead. North Clay scored their one and only run in the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut it to a 9-1 game. Kyra Swift recorded her fifth and final hit of the game in the top of the seventh inning to further push the South Central lead out to 10-1 as the Lady Cougars went on to close out the conference win. South Central is now 12-7 on the season and will play on the road again today as they travel to Casey-Westfield.
