Cougars baseball was held to just two runs late in the game as they could not overcome a quick start by North Clay in a 6 to 2 loss to the Cardinals on the road on Tuesday. North Clay put up four runs in the first inning for the early 4-0 lead that held until the top of the fifth inning. South Central got a pair of runners on base quickly to start the fifth on back to back singles from Maddox Robb and Hudson Moore. A RBI single from Callaway Smith to left field scored courtesy runner E Hiestand and Colton Smith followed that up with a RBI single to left field to score Moore as the Cougars cut the Cardinals lead in half to 4-2. North Clay was able to get their lead back up to four runs with two scored in the bottom half of the fifth inning as South Central trailed 6-2. Scoreless sixth and seventh innings would hold the score of 6-2 as the final score as the Cougars fell to the Cardinals. South Central is now 7-7 on the season and will have a couple days off before playing at home against Flora on Friday.
