Altamont Softball Holds Off Charleston

Grace Lemke struck out 20 batters and drove in both Altamont runs as the Lady Indians held off Charleston for a 2-1 win at home on Tuesday. Altamont leadoff batter Avery Fleeharty drew a walk before Lemke drove a shot to center field for a two run home run and to give the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead. The Altamont lead would hold over the course of five scoreless innings as strong pitching from Lemke and tough defense from the Trojans kept the game tight. Charleston broke up the shutout in the top of the seventh inning, reaching base on an error that allowed a run to score and cut Altamont’s lead to 2-1. Lemke’s 20th strikeout of the day would end the game though as the Lady Indians held on for the 2-1 win. Altamont moves to 12-5 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday at Vandalia.
