The Lady Cougars used some heads up baserunning on a few base hits to put up five runs in the second inning on the way to a 5 to 4 win over Teutopolis on Monday. Trailing 1-0 to start the second, South Central had their first three batters work themselves to full counts before drawing back to back to back walks to load the bases. An infield flyout had the runners stay put but then Perci Reid singled to score Lauren Johnson and tie the game at 1-1 as the bases remained loaded. After the second out of the inning, Maddie Peddicord singled to right field to score Amelia Montes and Bri Buchanan and give the Lady Cougars the 3-1 lead. Kaitlyn Swift then singled to center field to score Reid and Peddicord and push the South Central lead to 5-1. The Wooden Shoes cut into the Lady Cougars lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to cut the game to 5-3. South Central brought one more run across the plate in the top of the third inning when Kinlee Thompson scored on a wild pitch and the Lady Cougars edged their lead back out to 6-3. T-Town scored one more run in the bottom of the third to again trim the Suth Central lead, but that lead would prove to be good for the rest of the game as each team held the other scoreless over the remining four innings and South Central closed out the 6-4 win. The Lady Cougars are 9-7 on the season and will be on the road again today as they will take on CHBC in National Trail Conference play.
