Lady Indians softball was held to just one hit as they dropped a close battle at Newton, 2-0, on Friday. The game was a pitcher’s duel with Altamont allowing just three hits, the first one of which was a triple and led to the Eagles taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning over the Lady Indians. Newton doubled up their lead to 2-0 on a bunt single in the bottom of the sixth inning as Altamont continued to be hitless. That would change in the top of the seventh as Grace Lemke singled to centerfield for the Lady Indians only hit of the day but she was stranded on base after a strikeout and a groundout ended the inning and the game. Altamont drops to 11-4 on the season as the loss stopped a four game win streak for the Lady Indians. They will get back into action on Monday with a National Trail Conference game at Windsor/Stew-Stras.
