South Central baseball put up seven runs in the second inning, but couldn’t stop Greenville late in the game as they suffered a 10 to 8 loss on the road at Grizzly Stadium on Thursday. The Cougars showed patience at the plate and heads up baserunning to get the game’s scoring going in the second inning. South Central collected five singles and three walks in the inning and took advantage of two wild pitches as well a steal of home to jump out to a 7-0 lead. The Comets cut that lead down to five runs, 7-2, in the bottom half of the second. The Cougars were able to push one run across the plate in the top of the third, edging their lead out to 8-2 before the Comets responded with three runs to cut South Central’s lead again, down to 8-5 at the end of the inning. Greenville then put together their best offensive inning of the game, pushing five runs across the plate to take their first lead of the game, 10-8. That lead would hold as both the sixth and seventh innings would go by scoreless and South Central suffered the two run loss. The Cougars are now 6-6 on the season and will host their annual Wooden Bat Classic this weekend, playing their opening game today against Flora at 1:30pm.
