Vandalia softball racked up 18 hits, their most in a game this season, as they cruised to a 17 to 9 win at Shelbyville on Thursday. Shelbyville scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Lady Vandals quickly tied things up at 1-1 in the top of the second inning. The Rams regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, 2-1, but again, Vandalia responded and took the lead 3-2 with two runs in the top of the third inning. The back and forth continued as Shelbyville scored two runs in the bottom of the third as they took the lead one last time, 4-3, to end the inning. Vandalia then busted the game wide open, putting up 12 runs in the top of the fourth inning. They would have five extra base hits in the inning along with five singles and took advantage of a few walks to surge out to a 15-4 lead. The Rams were able to score five more runs in the last half of the game, but the Lady Vandals put up a run each in the sixth and seventh inning as insurance as they closed out the big 17-9 win.
