Vandalia baseball bust open the game with a 7-run fourth inning on the way to an 11 to 1 win over Shelbyville at home on Thursday. The Vandals got off to a bit of a slow start as the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but that changed in the fourth inning as they were able to mix timely hits in with a handful of drawn walks to score seven runs for a 7-1 lead. Two more runs in the fifth inning had the Vandals up 9-1 before a pair of RBI singles in the sixth inning put the Vandals up 11-1 to trigger the run rule and close out the win. Vandalia had four players with multi-hit games while Brady Elder and Jack Lewis combined for six innings of one-run ball. The Vandals improve to 5-7 on the season and will be at Hillsboro today with game time set for 12:00pm.
