Mulberry Grove softball couldn’t overcome an uncharacteristic five errors and was held to three runs on four hits in a 10 to 3 loss to Calhoun on Wednesday. The scoring opened up in the bottom of the first when the Lady Aces got up 1-0 on a wild pitch that allowed Jenni Mezo to score. Calhoun tied the game up at 1-1 in the top of the third and took the lead, 3-1, with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. That lead became 5-1 after the Warriors put up a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings. The Aces cut the Calhoun lead down to 5-2, scoring on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game got a bit out of reach in the top of the seventh though as Calhoun racked up six hits in the inning, including a three-run home run that gave the Warriors a 10-2 lead. Mulberry Grove was able to put just one more run on the board in the bottom of the seventh as Callye Earnest led the inning off with a solo home run to left field. With the 10-3 loss, Mulberry Grove moves to 6-4 on the season and after a couple of days off, they will host Martinsville and Neoga for a round robin on Saturday, taking on the Blue Streaks at 10:00am and then facing the Indians at 2:00pm.
