Vandalia baseball got some strong pitching from Brock Willenborg and Jack Lewis and flashed strong defense as they held Lincolnwood to just two hits in a 3 to 1 win on Monday. The Lancers scored their one and only run of the game in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. The Vandals didn’t let that lead go for long as they tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI singe from Andrew Casey. Still tied up at 1-1 to start the bottom of the fourth, Lewis led off the inning with a single and Adam Buscher walked before a single from Willenborg loaded the bases. After a fielder’s choice play at the plate for the first out of the inning, a RBI single from Drew Jones scored one run and a sacrifice fly by Kohnor Depew brought in another run as the Vandals went ahead, 3-1. Those runs would be it for Vandalia as each team was held scoreless the remainder of the game and the Vandals closed out the win. Vandalia moves to 4-6 on the season and will host Greenville on Tuesday for a South Central Conference matchup.
