The Mulberry Grove Lady Aces scored three runs in the first inning, and never looked back, knocking off the Vandalia Lady Vandals 9-1 on Monday night. The first runs came across in the top of the first inning when Kamryn Jolliff and Callye Earnest were both hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Annie Jackson would then ground out to second to bring home a run, making the score 3-0. Mulberry Grove would get back on the board in the top of the third inning when Taylor Stone and Jolliff reached on back-to-back singles, then Earnest would single to drive in stone to give the Lady Aces a 4-0 lead. A sacrifice fly from Stone would score Lola Johnson in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 5-0 game. The Lady Vandals would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning after back-to-back walks from Bella Walk and Elaina Hagy. After a successful double steal, a throwing error would allow Walk to score, making it a 5-1 ballgame. The Lady Aces would get some insurance runs off of RBI singles from Earnest and Jackson in the sixth inning, and a two-run homerun from Johnson in the seventh inning, helping Mulberry Grove secure the 9-1 victory. The win improves the Lady Aces to 5-3 on the season. They will be at home on Tuesday to take on Lincolnwood. The Lady Vandals fall to 3-7 on the season. They will be at home Tuesday to take on SCC rival Greenville.
