Vandalia baseball split their two games of their home round robin on Saturday, picking up a win over Central A&M and falling to Nokomis. In their first game of the day, the Vandals found themselves trailing 4-0 as they came up to bat in the bottom of the third inning. After the first two batters reached base on a hit by pitch and an error, Drew Jones scored on a Raider error to get Vandalia on the board 4-1. Andrew Casey’s RBI single and a RBI double by Qwentyn Stombaugh scored two more runs as the Vandals pulled to withing one run, 4-3. Central A&M tied the game up at 4-4 in the top of the fourth but Vandalia took the lead for good in the fifth with three runs coming off of a RBI single from Brock Willenborg, another Raider error and a RBI groundout to pull ahead, 6-5, which held as the final score. In the second game, the Vandals jumped out early with a pair of first inning runs. Kohnor Depew and Qwentyn Stombaugh hit back to back singles to lead things off and Andrew Casey singled to bring in Depew. Stombaugh then scored on an error by the Nokomis first basemen as the Vandals took a 2-0 lead. That would be it for the Vandalia scoring as Nokomis scored five unanswered runs over the next six innings to hand Vandalia the 5-2 loss. Vandalia is now 3-6 on the season and will be at home again on Monday as they host Lincolnwood.
