Early Gillespie Runs Sink Vandals Baseball in SCC Opener


Vandalia baseball trailed early and was held to just one run on a pair of hits in a 7 to 1 loss at Gillespie to open up South Central Conference play on Friday. The Miners jumped out to a 6-0 lead after scoring two runs in the second inning and four in the third inning, One more Gillespie run made it 7-0 to end the fifth inning. With two outs in the top of the sixth inning and a man on third, Adam Buscher singled to short stop to score pinch runner Issac Sachan as the Vandals cut the Gillespie lead to 7-1. A strikeout would end the inning though and hold the Vandals to jus the one run as a scoreless bottom half of the sixth and top of the seventh inning closed out the game. The Vandals fall to 2-5 on the season and will be back at home today with games against Central A&M at 10:00am and Nokomis at around 2:00pm.
