Altamont gets home win over the Vandals in baseball action


The Altamont Indians used a big 6-run fourth inning to come away with an 11-3 victory over the Vandalia Vandals Thursday night. The Vandals got on the board first when Kohnor Depew led off with an infield single and later advanced to second on a groundout. After stealing third, Depew would come home to score on a groundout from Andrew Casey to give Vandalia a 1-0 lead. After two scoreless innings of play, Vandalia would get back on the board when Casey hit a one-out triple, and would come home to score on a sacrifice fly from Chase Cearlock, making the score 2-0. Altamont would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning after back-to-back singles from Brayden Schnarre and Blake Berg, Cooper McManaway would rip a double to left field to tie the game 2-2. Dyson Wagner would give the Indians the 3-2 lead on an RBI single. Back-to-back walks would load the bases for Kade Milleville, who would single to drive in Wagner, and Will Reardon to make it a 5-2 game, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Berg gave Altamont a 6-2 lead. The Indians would respond with a big 5-run fifth inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI double from Brayden Elam, and RBI groundouts from Milleville and Zaine Miller. The Vandals would get a run back in the seventh inning when Drew Jones singled to score Qwentyn Stombaugh, but the Vandals could not get any closer, falling 11-3. With the win, Altamont improves to 8-2 on the season. They will be on the road Monday to take on Neoga. Vandalia falla to 2-4 on the season. They will be on the road Friday for an SCC matchup against Gillespie.
