The Lady Indians capped off an early lead with an 8-run sixth inning to cruise to a 16 to 4 win over North Clay in National Trail Conference action on Wednesday. A pair of runs in the top of the first inning off of a North Clay error on a RBI single from Madison Tonn put Altamont ahead 2-0 early. A fielder’s choice that allowed Sophia Long to score and Avery Fleeharty scoring on another North Clay error to push the Indians lead to 5-0 in the second inning. Altamont was held scoreless in the third but two more runs in the fourth inning again widened the Lady Indians lead, up to 8-0, as the Cardinals remained scoreless. After scoring two quick runs to open the sixth, Grace Lemke tripled to bring in two runs and Laila Hankins followed suit with a RBI single to bring a run in and put Altamont up 14-0. The Lady Indians then took advantage of a North Clay error to push two final runs across the plate for a 16-0 lead. The Cardinals were able to break through in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Altamont led to 16-4, but that was as close as they got as the Lady Indians shut the door on the North Clay scoring threat to close out the win. Altamont improves to 7-2 on the season and will play their third day in a row today when they return home to host T-Town.
