Vandalia senior Madison Lupton had a day at the plate going 4 for 4 with a triple, two home runs and six RBI to lead Vandalia to a 22 to 5 win over St. Elmo-Brownstown on Tuesday. Vandalia put up five runs in the first inning, one of those coming on Lupton’s first home run of the day, and SEB countered with two runs in the bottom half on the inning as the Vandals led 5-2 at the end of the first inning. Vandalia continued to roll in the second inning as Bella Walk hit a 2-run home run, Mady McCall hit a solo home run and Lupton tripled and the Lady Vandals went up 13-2. A triple from Walk and Lupton’s second home run of the day, a 3-run shot, led he Lady Vandals to seven more runs and a 20-2 Vandalia lead. SEB scored a pair of runs on a Vandalia error and Macey Sapp doubled to score a run as SEB three runs in the inning cut the Vandalia lead down to 20-5. An RBI double from Katy Sefton and RBI single from Heather Sanchez brought in two more runs and the Lady Vandals held SEB scoreless in the bottom of the fourth to close out the 22-5 win. Vandalia is now 2-5 on the season and will play at home today against Belleville Althoff. SEB drops to 0-5 on the season and will play at Hutsonville-Palestine today.
