Altamont baseball put seven of their nine runs on the scoreboard in a big fourth inning as the Indians grabbed a 9 to 5 win on the road at Newton on Monday. The Indians scoring began in the first inning as a solo home run from Keegan Schultz put Altamont on top 1-0. Newton answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead over Altamont. After scoreless second and third innings, the Indians busted the game open in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and no outs, a sacrifice fly by Brayden Schnarre allowed Kade Milleville to tag up and score from third to tie the game at 2-2. With bases loaded again and two outs, a Newton error on a fly ball allowed Schultz and Owen Reardon to score and the Indians regained the lead, 4-2. Will Reardon singled to score Parker Bell and then Brayden Elam hit a 3-run home run to right field and Altamont jumped ahead 8-2. Two more Newton runs in the bottom of the sixth inning closed the Altamont lead to 8-4. The Indians scored their final run of the game on a sacrifice fly from Cooper McManaway that allowed Jackson Pagone to tag up and score from third for a 9-4 lead. Newton was able to bring in one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning but Altamont shut down the Eagles scoring threat to close out the game for the 9-5 win. Altamont improves to 6-2 on the season and gets right back into action today as they host Brownstown-St. Elmo.
