A 6-run fifth inning brought CHBC baseball back from a four run deficit as Vandalia squandered their lead late and the Bobcats got a 6 to 4 comeback win over the Vandals on Monday. Vandalia took the lead early with a pair of second inning runs as a leadoff double by Adam Buscher turned into the Vandals first run when Buscher scored on an RBI double from Brock Willenborg and then he too scored when Brady Elder reached base on an error as Vandalia went up 2-0. The Vandals tacked on another pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning with two outs when Willenborg got his second RBI of the day on a double to left field and Owen Halford followed that up with a single to center to score Willenborg to put Vandalia up 4-0. The Bobcats offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning. Clive Schlanser drew a lead off walk followed by Kaidyn Calame being hit by a pitch. Connor Nowitzke put down a bunt to score Schlanser before Wyatt Rueff doubled to score Calame and Nowitzke and the Bobcats cut the Vandals lead down to 4-3. With the bases loaded, Blake Mueller walked to bring in another run and tie the game up at 4-4. With the bases still loaded, Connor Vaughn reached base on a Vandalia throwing error that allowed AJ Radloff and Hunter Pope to score to put CHBC up 6-4. That would be it for the scoring in the game as the Bobcats and Vandals went scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings. CHBC improves to 2-4 on the season and will be at home today against Casey-Westfield. Vandalia is now 2-3 on the season and will be at Mulberry Grove today.
