Mulberry Grove Can't Hold Off Middle Inning Offensive Surge in Loss to Casey-Westfield

Looking to add in some competition after recent rainouts, the Mulberry Grove Lady Aces added on a tough opponent in Casey-Westfield but couldn’t hold off the Warriors in a 10-3 loss at home on Tuesday. The Lady Aces got on the board first with a solo home run from Jenni Mezo getting Mulberry Grove out to a 1-0 lead. That lead held until the top of the third inning as Casey-Westfield scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Warriors would repeat that offensive pattern with three runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth inning as Mulberry Grove trailed 9-1. After being held scoreless for four innings, the Lady Aces would briefly break through again after Lily Johnson drew a leadoff walk and then Taylor Stone hit a home run to centerfield to bring in a pair of runs and cut the Casey-Westfield lead down to 9-3. That would be it for the Aces scoring as the Warriors added one more run in the top of the seventh as Mulberry Grove fell 10-3. The Aces now stand at 3-2 on the season and will hope for another break in the weather as they are scheduled to host Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City today.

Mulberry Grove Offense:

Jenni Mezo – 1-2, 2 BB, R, RBI

Lily Johnson – BB, R

Taylor Stone – 2-3, R, 2 RBI

Claire Mollett – 2 BB
