Lady Indians Ride Early Offense, Lemke's Command in Circle to Win at Cumberland


Altamont softball bounced back from their first loss of the season on Monday to get a big 9 to 1 win at Cumberland on Tuesday. With one out in the top of the second inning, the Lady Indians began rolling and put together six hits including a 2-run home run from Madison Tonn and a grand slam from Grace Lemke that put Altamont up 7-0. Two more runs in the top of the seventh on back to back RBI singles pushed the Lady Indians lead to 9-0. Cumberland broke up the shutout attempt with a run in the bottom of the seventh but Altamont held the Pirate to just the one run to close out the 9 to 1 win. Grace Lemke continued her impressive senior season in the circle racking up 19 strikeouts while allowing just one run on two hits. Lemke and Schultz combined for 7 RBI in the game as Altamont moves to 6-1 on the season with the win. They will have a day off before returning to the field on Thursday at Olney.
