Vandalia softball scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get an 8-7 walk-off win over South Central on Monday evening. Back to back singles by the Lady Cougars to open the game followed by a one out RBI ground out from Kinlee Thompson put South Central up 1-0. That lead was short lived though as the Lady Vandals tied things up 1-1 on an RBI single from Elaina Hagy in the bottom of the first. The game stayed tied until the top of the fifth inning as South Central hit back to back singles from Thompson and Lauren Johnson and reached base on an error to put three runs on the scoreboard for a 4-1 lead. Vandalia again answered with a RBI double from Mady McCall, a RBI groundout by Katy Sefton and a RBI single from Arian Dunaway as Vandalia evened it up at 4-4. After a scoreless sixth inning, South Central pushed three more runs across the plate to regain the lead 7-4. Again, the Lady Vandals responded as they put the first three batters on base via a single, an error and a fielder’s choice. Dunaway singled to left field to score one and one out later, Rebekah Miller reached on an error and two runs scored on that same error as Vandalia tied it up 7-7 with a runner at third, Madison Lupton then singled to center field to bring in the game winning run for the Lady Vandals first win of the season, 8-7. Vandalia improves to 1-2 on the season and will play at Flora today.
