Thirteen Area Track Athletes Qualify for Illinois Top Times Indoor Championship Meet


Thirteen athletes from two area high school track and field teams have qualified to compete in Friday’s Class 1A Illinois Top Times Indoor Championship Meet at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center in Bloomington. Athletes must be in the top 15 or 18 performers in field events, top 12-24 performers in running events and top 12-16 teams in relay events during the indoor season to qualify for Top Times.

Altamont will be represented by nine athletes at the meet. For the Indians boys team, senior Ben Roedl has qualified to compete in the Long Jump and Triple Jump in which he goes in ranked #2 out of 15 and in the High Jump where is ranked #5 out of 15 athletes heading into the meet. Junior Jacob Veteto will compete in the Pole Vault and is ranked fifth out of 15 in the event. Senior Hayden Summers will compete in the 400m Dash and is ranked 8th out of 24 competitors in the event. For the Lady Indians, freshman Ada Roberts will compete in the Long Jump where she is ranked #7 out of 15 competitors. Senior Abby Weishaar will compete in the 400m Dash where she goes in ranked #15 out of 24 competitors. And, the 4×200 relay team of freshman Ada Roberts, senior Gabby Weishaar, junior Katie Tedrick and senior Abby Weishaar along with alternates, freshman Keely Fleeharty and sophomore Avery Aldrich, have qualified and go in ranked #14 out of 16 competing teams.

Vandalia will be represented by four athletes. For the Vandalia girls, junior Hannah Brown will compete in the Shot Put and is ranked #12 out of the 18 competitors. For the Vandal boys, junior Kohnor Depew qualified in the 60m Dash and goes into the meet ranked #23 out of 27 competitors. Senior Ian Whitehead has qualified in the 400m Dash and will be the #14 ranked qualifier our of 24 competing athletes. Sophomore Sam Bowers will compete in the 60m Hurdles and he is ranked #20 from the 24 qualifying athletes.
