Lady Vandals Drop Road Game at Lincolnwood

Vandalia softball put up a late inning fight, but could not catch Lincolnwood in a 7-3 loss on the road at Raymond on Monday. After a pair of scoreless innings to start the game, the Lancers got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning as the Lady Vandals trailed 5-0. Lincolnwood tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth inning as Vandalia’s deficit grew to 7-0. The Lady Vandals got some offense running in the top of the seventh inning as Elaina Hagy hit a leadoff single and Ollie Whitehead followed with a walk to put runners at first and second. Katy Sefton doubled to right field to score Hagy and put Vandalia on the scoreboard. With two runners in scoring position, a passed ball brought Whitehead in to score and advanced Sefton to third base. A sacrifice bunt from Sierra Stewart then brought in Sefton to pull the Lady Vandals within four, closing the Lincolnwood lead to 7-3. That was as close as Vandalia would get though as the Lady Vandals fell 7-3 to drop to 0-2 to start the season. The Lady Vandals will be back at home today as they host the Effingham Flaming Hearts.
