Vandalia softball was held to just one hit on Thursday as they suffered a 10-0 loss to Newton on the road. The first inning and a half went by scoreless opened the scoring with a 3-run bottom of the second inning. Mady McCall would collect the Lady Vandals first and only hit of the day in the top of the fourth inning, hitting a hard ground ball single to right field. Bella Walk reached on an error in the following at bat to put McCall into scoring position at second, but an infield groundout ended the inning for the Vandals. Newton went on to tack on a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull ahead 5-0. A 4-run fifth inning pushed the Eagle lead out further as Vandalia trailed 9-0. One run in the bottom of the sixth inning put Newton up 10-0 and triggered the run rule to end the game. The Lady Vandals start the season at 0-1 and will look to bounce back on Monday when they go on the road again to face Lincolnwood.
