Mulberry Grove Falls at Carlyle in Spring Baseball Opener

Mulberry Grove baseball couldn’t stop the offense of Carlyle in a 19-4 loss to open up their Spring season on the road on Wednesday. The Indians took an early lead over the Aces with a four run first inning. Mulberry Grove responded in the top of the second inning and with two outs, the Aces sandwiched a single with a pair of walks to load the bases. A passed ball allowed Jackson Elam to score from third and advanced the runners up to second and third before a two RBI double to center field by Logan Bauer scored Aden Young and Hagan Henrichsmeyer to pull the Aces to within a run of the Indians, 4-3. Carlyle came back in the bottom of the inning and put up five more runs to push their lead back out to 9-3. Mulberry Grove was held scoreless in the top of the third inning and the Indians tacked on to their lead, going up 15-3. The Aces put one more run on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning as Brant Thomas scored on a Carlyle error to make it 15-4. Four runs by Carlyle in the bottom of the fourth would end the game as the 19-4 lead would trigger the run rule. Mulberry Grove starts their season at 0-1 and will be off until Tuesday when they are back on the road at Lebanon.
