Lady Aces Drop Season Opening Battle at Carlyle


Mulberry Grove softball came up just short in a back and forth battle at Carlyle, 7-5, to open up their 2025 season. The Lady Aces scored quick in the top of the first inning on a Taylor Stone RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Carlyle scored their first runs and took their first lead in the game with two runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Aces 2-1. That lead was short-lived as Mulberry Grove responded and scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning as Stone picked up two more RBI on a two-run home run to left field to put the Aces up 3-2. Carlyle was able to score two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning on a passed ball and an error as the Indians regained the lead over the Aces, 4-3. After a scoreless fourth inning, Mulberry Grove put two more runs on the scoreboard on and RBI groundout from Lily Johnson and an RBI single from Stone as the Aces went back on top, 5-4. Carlyle was able to put three runs up in the bottom of the fifth as Mulberry Grove trailed again, 7-5, and that score would hold as the teams held each other scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings. Mulberry Grove starts the season at 0-1 and will have the rest of the week off before going on the road again on Monday to take on South Central in Kinmundy.
