Brownstown-St. Elmo baseball put up 12 runs but couldn’t get past Shelbyville in a 16-12 loss at home on Tuesday to open up their season. After the Rams took a 1-0 first inning lead, the Bombers tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. After Shelbyville regained the lead, 3-1 in the top of the third, BSE put up a 5-run third inning for a 6-3 lead. The game became tied up again, 6-6, as the Rams scored three runs in the fourth inning. Three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth inning for Shelbyville had the Bombers trailing 10-6. That would change in the bottom of the sixth when BSE brought in six runs to regain the lead 12-10. A 6-run top of the seventh inning from the Rams had BSE trailing 16-12 and the Bombers were held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning as BSE fell by four runs to drop their season opener. At 0-1 to start the season, BSE will go on the road for the first time on Friday when they play at Hillsboro.
