Altamont Softball Wins Season Opener Over Carlyle 2-0

The Altamont Lady Indians picked up a 2-0 win over the visiting Carlyle Indians on Tuesday in their season and home opener at Gilbert Park. Senior pitcher Grace Lemke picked up where she left off from her strong junior season pitching her first no-hitter of the year with 16 strikeouts. The Carlyle pitching was strong as well in the game as after four and a half innings of scoreless ball, Altamont got the scoring opening in the bottom of the fifth inning as they walked the bases loaded with two outs and Kennedi Schults then scored on a wild pitch to put Altamont up 1-0. Still holding on to the one run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, Altamont drew two walks off the Carlyle relief pitcher and a double steal put the runners at first and third. On the double steal, an error by the Carlyle first baseman allowed Reagan Kuenstler to score and put Altamont up 2-0. Altamont then sat Carlyle down 1, 2, 3 in the top of the seventh to close out the win. Altamont starts the season off at 1-0 and will have their first road games of the season this weekend as they play in the Future Champions Jamboree in Jacksonville on Friday evening and Saturday.
