BSE Gets Revenge on Father McGivney, Wins Second Ever Regional Championship

Brownstown-St. Elmo girls basketball had a year to simmer on the sting of a loss to Father McGivney in last year’s Regional Championship and made sure history did not repeat itself as they would get revenge with a 46-27 win over the Griffins Thursday night in the South Central 1A Regional Championship game. After the Griffins took a 3-0 lead, BSE went on a 6-0 run to pull ahead 6-3. A 4-0 run by Father McGivney would have the Bombers trialing by one, 7-6, to end the quarter. BSE began rolling in the second quarter though as Addie Sasse got a few big buckets for six points and Danika Ramsey had five points to lead an 18-8 run and give the Bombers a 24-15 lead at halftime. While their offense slowed up a bit in the third quarter, the BSE defense tightened up as they allowed just two points to the Griffins while also forcing six turnovers by Father McGivney in the period and used an 8-2 run to push their lead out to 15 points, going up 32-17, to start the fourth quarter. While BSE struggled a bit at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, eight points from Madi Miller and three each from Presley Williams and Dayana Haslett fueled a 14-10 scoring advantage in the quarter to finish off the 46-27 win and grab their second ever Regional Championship in program history which is also their second title in the last 6 seasons. BSE improves to 26-6 on the season and will play in the Semifinals of the Lincolnwood 1A Sectional on Tuesday at 7:30pm. They will have to wait till tonight to find out their opponent though as they will face the winner of the White Hall North Greene Regional Championship between Hardin Calhoun and Nokomis that is set for 7:00pm this evening.

BSE Scoring:

Madi Miller – 13 points

Presley Williams – 11 points

Addie Sasse – 8 points

Danika Ramsey – 8 points

Dayana Haslett – 6 points
