Altamont Girls Advance to Regional Championship with OT Win Over Dieterich

The Altamont Lady Indians will play for their second straight Regional Championship, after getting a nailbitting 57-54 win in overtime against the Dieterich Movin Maroons in the semifinals. Altamont had their offense going early, taking a 19-12 first quarter lead, highlighted by 7 points from Kaylee Lurkins, and 6 from Kylie Osteen. Points would be hard to come by in the second quarter, as Dieterich would outscore Altamont 9-5 in the second quarter, but the Lady Indians would still find themselves up 24-21 going into the half. The Maroons would have their best offensive quarter of the night in the third, going on a 16-11 run, and would have a slim 37-35 lead going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter would be an intense back and forth affair that saw Dieterich up by 2 with less than a minute left. Osteen would hit a mid range jumper to tie the game at 46. The Maroons would take a one point lead after going 1-2 on the free throw line, and Altamont freshman Reagan Kuenstler would draw a foul, and go 1-2 as well to tie the game at 47. After Ella Nelson would force a Dieterich turnover, Lurkins would have a chance to win it in regulation, but her shot attempt would fall short to send it to overtime. The two teams would once again trade basketets, and Dieterich would find themselves up 54-52, but Osteen would hit a three pointer in the right corner with 1:27 left to give the Lady Indians a one point lead, and Kuenstler would ice the game with two free throws to secure the Lady Indians with the 57-54 win. The Lady Indians improve to 13-18 on the season. Altamont advances to the Regional Championship on Thursday, when they will take on the St. Anthony Bulldogs at 7:30.
