Vandals Can't Overcome Mid-Game Scoring Woes in SCC Loss at Greenville

After grabbing a first quarter lead, the Vandals lost that lead in the second quarter after a handful of turnovers and couldn’t catch up to Greenville in a 52 to 43 loss at Greenville on Friday night. The Vandals fell behind early but would take the lead 13-12 late in the first quarter and after Greenville pulled ahead 14-13, the Vandals got one more basket before the quarter ended to lead 15-14 heading into the second. Both teams would be held to single digit scoring in the second quarter, but the Comets would have a 9-4 advantage in the period to lead the Vandals 23-19 at halftime. Vandalia was held to just six points in the third quarter and found themselves trailing 38-25 at the end of the third quarter. An 18-14 scoring burst in the fourth quarter would shave four points off the Vandals deficit, but was not enough as they suffered the 52-43 loss to the Comets. Vandalia drops to 12-16 on the season and to 3-4 in the South Central Conference. They will have a quick turnaround as they play again tonight at home against Carterville with the JV game starting at 4:00pm and Varsity to follow.

Vandalia Scoring:

Wade Brannon – 14 points

Issac Sachan – 13 points

Andrew Casey – 10 points

Qwentyn Stombaugh – 4 points

Tanner Stone – 2 points
