Pro Wire Athlete of the Week

Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for January 18 are Altamont basketball junior guard Kade Milleville and the Vandalia High School Wrestling team.

The 2024-2025 Vandalia Wrestling team has been re-writing program history one step at a time with their most recent history making moment coming as they captured their first ever team title at the Lyle King Princeton Invitational Tournament last Saturday. The Vandals came out ahead of rival and second place Coal City by 7.5 points for the title. Four Vandals captured individual titles while eight others grabbed top eight finishes as Vandalia reached the podium in 12 of 14 weight classes. To follow up their PIT Championship, the Vandals then went 5-0 in dual team action this week as they have won 25 straight dual team matches to get to 28-1 on the season.

With Altamont boys basketball graduating such a large senior class last year, it paved the way for new leadership to step up for this season and the junior Milleville has done just that in multiple ways. One of the most notable ways he has stepped up is as the team’s scoring leader with Milleville turning it up a notch since the start of play in the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament and going through the team’s current three game winning streak. Milleville is averaging 22.1 points per game in that seven game stretch with five games of 22 points or more including a season high 30 points in the Indians’ win over New Athens.
