Altamont boys basketball is off to a good start to January, having won two in a row after a fourth quarter comeback sent the game to overtime where the Indians outscored the Central A&M Raiders to grab the 51 to 47 win on the road on Tuesday night. The perimeter game for both teams was on display in the first quarter as Altamont hit a trio of three pointers and Central A&M did the same with the Raiders also hitting a trio of two point baskets to the Indians one as Altamont trailed 15-11 at the end of the first. Both teams would hold the other two single digit scoring in the second quarter as Altamont was held to three field goals and a pair of free throws in the quarter as their deficit stayed at four points with them down 23-19 at halftime. Central A&M would get a little momentum in the third quarter and outscored the Indians 14-11 to edge their lead out to 37-30. Altamont would go back to what worked early, hitting a pair of threes and then showcasing a 6 for 6 performance at the free throw line to outscore the Raiders and draw even 44-44 at the end of regulation and force overtime. The Altamont defense and free throw shooting was on display in the extra time as they would hold A&M to just a single three point bucket while scoring seven points, including going 5 of 6 at the free throw line, to get pull out the 51-47 win. Altamont has now won two of three in the month of January to get their record to 6-8 on the season. After spending nearly the last month on the road, the Indians return home to play for the first time since December 17 as they host North Clay on Friday night in National Trail Conference action.
