Altamont girls basketball couldn’t stop the Marshall fourth quarter scoring attack as they were dealt a 51 to 27 loss at home on Monday night. The first quarter would be a back and forth scoring affair as the two teams would, for the most part, match each other possession for possession for the most part. Despite seven points in the quarter from Kaylee Lurkins and another bucket from Kylie Osteen, Altamont was outscored 14-10 to trail by two possessions heading into the second quarter. Turnovers and missed scoring opportunities in the paint would hold Altamont to just five second quarter points as they were outscored 9-5 in the quarter and ended the first half trailing 23-15. The third quarter would mimic the first as it would again be a back and forth battle as a pair of big baskets and five points from Ella Nelson and another five from Kayle Lurkins would help Altamont to a 10-8 advantage in the quarter to close their deficit to six points, as they were down 31-25 to start the fourth quarter. Turnover trouble would return for the Lady Indians in the fourth quarter though and Marshall went on a 20-2 run through the quarter as Altamont was handed the 51-27 loss. The girls will return to conference action on Thursday as they will be back at home hosting Brownstown-St. Elmo in NTC play.
