Our Pro Wire Athlete of the Week for December 21 is the Vandalia High School Boys Wrestling team.
The Vandals wrestling team is now 15-1 on the season after going 10-0 over the last week with six of those wins coming by a margin of over 60 points and with the Vandals getting three shutout wins. Prior to Thursday night’s two shutout wins and Friday night’s dominant showing at the Tolono Unity Multi Quad, the Vandals were sitting as the #2 ranked team in the Class 1A rankings and individually they have nine wrestlers ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes and another two ranked as Honorable Mention. The Vandals are a favorite heading into next week’s Abe’s Rumble in Springfield which will feature 17 of the top 25 ranked 1A teams in the state.
