SEB Overcomes Slow Start to Get Quarterfinal Win at St. Elmo Holiday Tournament

St. Elmo-Brownstown was held scoreless for the first six and a half minutes of the game, but a furious second quarter run would give the Eagles the lead and they would hold off Patoka-Odin to get a 58 to 50 win in the quarterfinals of their own St. Elmo Holiday Tournament on Wednesday night. SEB found themselves down 13-0 to start the game and would get just three first quarter points in three made free throws by Jayden Hughett to trail 13-3 at the end of the quarter. The tide of the game would turn in SEB’s favor in the second quarter as the Eagles would go on a 25-9 run fueled by a 10-point quarter from Graidon Wilhour, a six points mid-quarter swing by Gavin Sanders hitting back-to-back three pointers from the left corner and five key points from Benji Lowe off the bench. The run would have SEB up 28-22 at halftime but Patoka-Odin was not going away as they would outscore the Eagles 12-10 in the third quarter and cut the SEB lead to four points, 38-34, at the end of the third quarter. The Warriors kept up the fight and would cut the Eagles lead down to two points a few times in the fourth quarter but SEB was able to get just a little more space and Lowell Wilhour would go 6 of 6 from the free throw line in the closing minutes of the game as the Eagles would close out the 58-50 win. SEB will now have a Friday night Championship semifinal date with Windsor/Stew-Stras waiting for them. The two teams have met in the Championship game twice in the last three years with WSS beating SEB in 2021 to claim the title while the Eagles got some revenge and beat WSS in last year’s Championship game for the title. This year the Eagles and Hatchets will continue their friendly tournament rivalry with a trip to the Championship on the line as we will have the broadcast of that title game on Friday night at 7:45pm following the consolation game between Mulberry Grove and Patoka-Odin at 6:15pm.

Graidon Wilhour – 22 points
