The Altamont Lady Indians will have a bit of a new look when hitting the floor this season, beginning with their season opener on Tuesday night at Vandalia. After the graduation of four seniors who had spent a large amount of time in the starting lineup the last couple years and ultimately led the Lady Indians to a third place finish at State last season, Altamont will have some different faces stepping up to fill those spots. The Lady Indians return one full-time starter from last year’s team in Kylie Osteen while junior Kaylee Lurkins also saw several games in the starting lineup throughout the season. After missing a chunk of time last year with a hand injury, senior Libby Reardon is back for the Lady Indians. Along with those three ladies and senior Sophia Pearcy who was a trusted leader on JV last season, Altamont Coach Craig Carr says the new leadership of the team has taken shape and those upperclassmen have been stepping up in a big way to help the large group of underclassmen over their first two weeks of practice.
Despite the Varsity not being experienced heading into this season, Carr says they have a lot of potential there and their youth will be tested this year as they have changed up their schedule a bit and will have a couple tough tournament schedules like they have in the past.
Altamont will open up their season on Tuesday night at Vandalia before getting to have their home opener on Friday night against one of the new teams added to their schedule in Olney. After that, they head to the always tough Newton Bob Kerans Tournament over Thanksgiving Week.
