Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for November 9 are CHBC Cross Country junior August Cosart and Vandalia football sophomore quarterback Qwentyn Stombaugh.
Cosart became the first CHBC boys cross country runner since 2009 to qualify for the IHSA 1A State Finals Cross Country Meet after a 9th place finish at the Cumberland 1A Sectional last Saturday, November 2 at Lake Land College. The Bobcat junior has shown marked improvement this season with new personal records at every distance raced this year and has finished in the top 10 of seven of nine races competed in this season. Cosart will look to finish the season on a high note, competing at Detweiller Park in Peoria today at 10:00am. The 1A State Finals Awards Ceremony will then be at 11:00am.
Stombaugh has put up some big numbers in his sophomore season, especially in the last four weeks. In the last three games of the regular season and the first round playoff game, Stombaugh has racked up 847 passing yards, accounting for two-thirds of his passing yards on the season and he tossed 12 touchdown passes in that time to again account for two-thirds of his season total for passing touchdowns. Overall on the season he stands at 1,297 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns with a 61% completion percentage and an average of 18.3 yards per completion. Stombaugh has been a dual threat quarterback also doing plenty of damage with his legs this season as well as he has rushed for 1,102 yards overall with an average of 8.8 yards per carry and has found the end zone 20 times for rushing touchdowns.
