Vandals roll to win over Hillsboro, secure playoff berth for 8th straight season


The Vandals got on the board early and often, as they rolled to a 47 to 20 win over the Hillsboro Hiltoppers on Friday night at Sawyer Field, to secure their 8th straight playoff appearance—in years that their have been playoffs.

The Vandals got on the board early with Qwentyn Stombaugh scoring his first of 2 first quarter rushing Touchdowns at the 9:31 mark.  He would then add the second at the 1:26 mark to give the Vandals a 12 to 0 lead after the 1st quarter.  The Vandals rolled to 3 more TDs in the 2nd quarter and led 33 to 7 at halftime.  The Vandals would build the lead up to 47 to 7 before Hillsboro would tack on two later scores to get the final score to 47 to 20.

The Vandals had some big offensive games—Stombaugh ran for 144 yards and 4 TDs and also threw for 223 yards and 2 more TDs.  Kohnor Depew had 4 receptions for 125 yards and a TD.

For the Vandals, they are now 6-1 on the season and have secured their 8th straight playoff berth.  Every year there have been playoffs since from 2016 to now the Vandals have been in.  The COVID season–in the spring of 2021–there were no playoffs and the Vandals were 4-2 in that shortened season.  The Vandals will now be home for Senior night this coming Friday night as they will host the Gillespie Miners at Mark Greer Field.
