Pro Wire Athlete of the Week

Our Pro Wire Athlete of the Week for October 12 are the Altamont Soccer senior Javian Schlanser and Vandalia football sophomore quarterback Qwentyn Stombaugh.

Altamont’s Schlanser has shown this week why he is the Indians leading scorer this season with 10 goals in three games. On Saturday, Schlanser notched four goals in Altamont’s Senior Night win over St. Anthony and then followed that up with a hat trick on Tuesday with three goals in the Indians’ win at ALAH. Schlanser then notched another hat trick on Thursday evening with another three goals as Altamont beat Pana in their last home game and regular season finale. Schlanser has 26 goals now on the season, averaging 1.9 goals per game, as Altamont heads into the postseason on Tuesday at home against Robinson.

Vandalia’s Stombaugh continued his big sophomore season, having a hand in six of the Vandals’ seven touchdowns in their 47-20 win over Hillsboro on Friday night. Stombaugh would have four rushing touchdowns of 43 yards, 15 yards, 1 yard and 1 yard while also passing for a pair of touchdowns, hitting Jacob Johnson for a 15 yard touchdown strike and connecting with Kohnor Depew for a 77-yard touchdown. The 6 touchdowns in a game are a best for Stombaugh after he twice this season has accounted for five touchdowns in a game.
