Male Newcomers of the Year
Sam Bowers – The Vandalia hurdler has a breakout freshman season as he grabbed 9 top two finishes in 14 opportunities and another three 3rd place finishes in the 110 hurdles and qualified for the IHSA 1A State Track Meet in his first high school season. Bowers also turned in seven top 3 finishes in the 12 chances in the 300m hurdles. Bowers was also a mainstay in the relays for the Vandals rotating between the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays. During the season, Bowers was the lone Vandal to qualify for both the Illinois Top Times Indoor State Championships and the IHSA 1A State Meet.
Griffin Vaughn – The CHBC freshman distance runner specialized in the two mile run during the 2024 season with 7 top three finishes in 9 chances including a second place Sectional finish to qualify for the IHSA 1A State Track Meet where he finished 23rd in the 32-man field and was one of just four freshmen to qualify for state in the event.
