Our 2023-24 “Best Of” Girls Basketball Player of the year
Grace Nelson, Altamont-Bouncing back from a knee injury that knocked out half of her Junior year, Grace put together one of the best girls basketball season ever seen in not only the region but throughout the state. Grace averaged 30.5 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, 3.7 assists per game and 3.2 steals per game in helping the Lady Indians to a 28-7 record and a 3rd place finish at state. Grace passed 2,000 points early in the season, scored over 1,000 points during the season and finished her high school career with 2,862 total points—that’s good for 15th on the all time state list (and, remember, she missed a big chunk of her Junior year). Grace was the MVP of the NTC, named to several all state teams including first team for the IBCA. She was also a finalist for Ms. Basketball in Illinois. Grace will continue her outstanding basketball career at the next level and the Division 1 level at Illinois State University.
